In a remarkable display of unity and faith, the Fiji Muslim Youth Movement (FMYM) recently hosted an Interfaith Iftar for Interfaith Search Fiji (IFSF), marking a significant milestone in Fiji’s interreligious dialogue efforts. With over 100 guests in attendance, this year’s gathering was the largest in its four-year history and received extensive media coverage, highlighting the growing importance of interfaith collaboration in the country.
Several internal groups from within the Fiji Muslim Youth Movement and its affiliated organizations also took part in the event. These included the Fiji Muslim Women’s League (FMWL) Suva Branch, FMWL Sisters Youth Wing, FMYM Sisters Branch – Suva, FMYM Executives, FMYM Samabula Branch, FMYM Suva District Branch, and FML Executives. Their participation emphasized the active role youth and women play in promoting interfaith harmony and mutual understanding.
As one of the two major bodies engaged in interfaith initiatives in Fiji—alongside the Inter-Religious Dialogue (IRD)—Interfaith Search Fiji organizes monthly interfaith programs hosted by different organizations. This recent Iftar represented a pinnacle moment in the ongoing efforts to build bridges between diverse faith communities, showcasing the collective commitment to dialogue, acceptance, and unity.
Both IFSF and IRD executive members were present at the program, further underscoring the significance of the event. Their presence reinforced the commitment of these organizations to fostering meaningful engagement and understanding among Fiji’s diverse religious communities.
With such a successful turnout and positive reception, this Interfaith Iftar sets a high standard for future interfaith initiatives in Fiji. It serves as a powerful reminder that, despite differences in faith and practice, shared moments of reflection and togetherness can help build a more harmonious and interconnected society.
