The circle reminds us that we are together in one world. The two islands remind us of Fiji. The islands separate us from one another.
We are surrounded by ocean which is sometimes stormy. But we can cross the ocean from one island to another and meet the people on the other side.
The rainbow is set against a dark sky. The rainbow is formed by the sun shining on the dark clouds and rain. If the dark clouds are receding, the rainbow will disappear and the sun shine. If the dark clouds are coming closer, the sun will be clouded over and the rainbow of promise will cease to shine. The rainbow therefore reminds us of both danger and promise. But the rainbow can also be seen as the promise of a bridge to enable exchange to take place. Our task is therefore to search for ways to build bridges of respect and understanding between people of different religious traditions for the sake of all who are in the circle of Fiji’s islands and ocean.
