Interfaith Search Fiji expresses its deep concern and disappointment over a recent Facebook video in which a pastor makes derogatory and inflammatory comments against members of the Hindu and Muslim faiths.
Such remarks are unacceptable and contrary to the values of respect, compassion, and unity that form the foundation of Fiji’s multicultural and multi-faith society. Freedom of religion and belief must always be accompanied by a sense of responsibility and respect for others’ faiths.
As an organization committed to fostering interreligious understanding and harmony, Interfaith Search Fiji condemns any statements or actions that incite division or hatred among our communities. Fiji’s rich diversity is a source of strength, and it is vital that all religious leaders use their influence to build bridges rather than barriers.
We call upon:
1. Facebook to urgently review the content in question and take appropriate action consistent with its policies on hate speech and religious intolerance.
2. All faith leaders and community members to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and mutual respect.
3. Relevant authorities to ensure that speech or actions that threaten interfaith harmony are addressed in accordance with Fiji’s laws and values.
Interfaith Search Fiji stands ready to engage with all stakeholders to uphold the principles of love, respect, and unity that are at the heart of our shared humanity.
